I quit my job 3 weeks ago. I guess I am a real artist now.
I just want to be an artist
I find myself saying this a lot, and most of the time the people around me say "You are an artist." Then I want to be more of an artist. And not just in the sense of making things and working in my studio, but in the intentional application of life to the discussion and creation of art and ideas. I woke up today with an overwhelming desire to go to graduate school, but soon another thought deluged me... would I even get in? I need to do more, every hour of every day, to reach that goal. I hate my phone and the curse of having everyone's engagement, pregnancy, breakup, makeup, and makeup tutorial at my fingertips. This modern drug destroys the empathetic dreamer and does nothing for my own journey to be an artist.
But on that note of needing motivation and growth, a new adventure awaits me at Wabi Sabi Warehouse. I'll be moving into my new studio – double the size and a door to the yard that is soon to host many backyard parties – and role as warehouse manager in October to start planning the shows and events for 2017! All of the right things happen by living in honest and productive pursuit of what is, instead of striving for what I think I want with stressful disillusionment. I came to Wilmington to start a gallery, and since that dream's miscarriage have been actively scheming on abandoned buildings to figure out how to make it happen. The bigger mission has always been to create a space that holds a voice for change and sparks fearless individuality in my community. In some capacity, that is going to happen and I can't wait to see how it propels forward Wilmington's art scene as well as my own goals and dreams. 2017 is the year! Stay tuned!!

Omni, a root word meaning "all", is a collaborative art experience of installation, performance, interactive, and 2D art, that investigates finding love and unity as a human race, and letting go of the things that hold us back from growth.
Visitors are encouraged to enter through our 4th St. entrance, behind Goat & Compass (710 N 4th St, Wilmington, NC 28401) to fully experience the exhibition.

This is an especially compelling situation for me. The piece, Josh's Graduation (distort #2), is a landscape I made using an image of me and my brothers at Josh's high school graduation, who passed away 10 years ago this year. This is my first time showing regionally in North Carolina outside of Wilmington, and the opening is on his birthday. The whole family will be there to celebrate. There is no where else I would want to be on his 34th birthday than in an inspiring environment discussing the work I've done in his memory. It is an interesting time of reflection on my artistic and career achievements of the last decade as I continue on a road that his death, in a mysteriously blissful way, has helped to pave.

Check the review of my solo show earlier this summer, I Will Live On, by Savannah Art Informer! Weird emotions coming back to this after a couple of months...
The exhibition features a strong and complex body of work revealing the artist’s heartbreaking and unfortunate experience of losing a sibling as well as her interpretation and representation of dualities – life and death, soul and body, reality and perception; it is the prints and photo transfers that really stand out, exposing the pain that informed the artist’s ritual-like exhibition.

Such a great review of The Foundry Show, held at Sicky Nar Nar Gallery in Savannah, GA!
When the motives of artists are profound, when they are at their work as a result of deep consideration, when they believe in the importance of what they are doing, their work creates a stir in the world.
