The Museum of Dead Words

11 WORDS DIED ON THE INTERNET –
What Happens Next Will Shock You!

Take a guided tour of 11 words that once meant so much to us, but now mean nothing more than srnglak. Find out who did it, why you care, and what happens next.

Your guide, Dyalekt, a Brooklyn-based MC, educator and purveyor of wordly worlds, spent a year researching internet comments and found 11 words that turned arguments into fights. He has put together an art installation/ museum tour/ theater show of his results called the Museum of Dead Words, combining hip-hop, performance, and visual art, to provide an innovative educational experience done pop-up museum style, and also wrote an entire rap album to accompany each word.
Our show in Wilmington is of the first preview showings of the museum before we head to Mozilla Festival in London, UK at the end of October. MozFest is for advocates of a healthy Internet, and we've been invited to explore with them the intersection of the web with civil society, journalism, public policy, and art through interactive sessions.

WARNING: Rapping will happen. There will be bias and binaries. On both sides.

Full Frontal Opening Reception and Life Drawing Class

Full Frontal Opening Reception and Life Drawing Class

RSVP

An opening reception on the evening of June 10 will showcase visual work, as well as thought-provoking installations, live performance art, and a figure drawing class with live models that will be open to the public. Events being planned throughout the show's duration will include a panel discussion on this theme.

Full Frontal Life Drawing Class:
The idea for this show was born out of a Wednesday morning life drawing class. To us, working from a nude model is a foundational artistic process, one that has been practiced since the beginning of art history. But to a protected public, where parents and society indoctrinate youth to associate nudity with sex and pornography, the naked body has become increasingly taboo and controversial. Intended as an educational and reverential feature to this show, we will open up the sacred and intimate space of the life drawing studio to a gallery audience, inviting them to experience the technical, mental, and often spiritual importance of drawing from live models. Through their observation of this peaceful connectedness that inspires much of the work in the show, I hope to bring awareness to the way we apply self-justified labels to abstract objects and deas, simply ased o our individual histories and experiences. The public is invited and welcome to participate in the life drawing class, happening throughout the duration of the reception. Materials will be provided or artists can bring their own.

FULL FRONTAL Nude Art Exhibition

FULL FRONTAL Nude Art Exhibition

I pay close attention to the artistic activity of my environment, and the exhibitions I organize are always a direct response to these events and issues. Being an artist in Wilmington has been inspiring in an interesting way; I’ve learned to positively refocus the energy of my renegade inclinations toward creating art experiences and starting conversations I feel are important. Enter “Full Frontal,” an upcoming exhibition at Wabi Sabi Warehouse.

Full Frontal is intended to showcase the naked human body in all sizes, media, and interpretations. Through an uncensored celebration of the nude form, we ask why the human body is still considered taboo by many, and discuss where the line - if there is a line - of nudity is drawn in the art world.

Exhibition runs June 10 – July 31 in Wilmington, NC
Opening reception June 10, 7–10 pm at Wabi Sabi Warehouse
